Recently, polymer nanocomposite materials have significantly attracted substantial academic and industrial interest. Considerable efforts have been devoted to the designing nanoparticle and nanocomposite system to maximize their material properties. In general, silica particles widely used as fillers, because they can be easily controlled particle size and surface charge. The main problem in nanocomposite systems is effective dispersion of silica nanoparticles in polymer matrix. Here we have developed nanocomposite materials consisting of polyurethane matrix and silica-decorated graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets. The silica nanoparticles uniformly coated on GO nanosheets, and the particle size is under 7 nm. These hybrid materials (i.e., SiOx-GO nanosheets) exhibit homogeneous dispersion properties in polyurethane matrix, which leads to the improved materials properties such as mechanical properties. |
