Electrocatalytic performance of NiS thin films for oxygen evolution reaction |

The development of low cost, efficient and stable oxygen evolution catalysts is imperative for realization of commercial production of Hydrogen from water. Transition metal sulfides are promising choices for this application due to their exalt activity and stability towards the core half reactions, OER and HER. The synthesized films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) methods. Fundamental electrochemical analysis reveals the catalytic activity of 10 nm NiS film grown on FTO (Fluorine doped SnO2 coated glass) is 200 mV over potential at 10 mA/cm2 in 1M KOH electrolyte solution. We found that the conversion of nickel sulfide to nickel hydroxide during electro catalysis and the stability improved 24 hours without any significant reduction in current density. |
