제목 Polystyrene/laponite nanoparticle via Pickering emulsion polymerization and its electroresponsive property
초록 Conducting polymer/clay composite particles have been regarded as candidate material for electrorheological (ER) fluids. In this study, we fabricated polystyrene/laponite core-shell nanoparticles via Pickering emulsion polymerization. Styrene monomer droplets were stabilized hydrophilic laponite modified cetyltrimethylammonium bromide on the oil in water (O/W) emulsion system. Surface morphology of synthesized PS/laponite nanoparticles was confirmed by SEM images in which some laponite was found to cover the PS nanoparticles. TEM images confirmed the position of exfoliated laponite around the nanoparticles. Both FT-IR and TGA were use for additional characterization. The ER performance of PS/laponite nanoparticle based ER fluid when dispersed in silicone oil was also investigated by a rotational rheometer under an applied electric field.
