Fabrication of core-shell-structured poly(methyl methacrylate)-coated zirconium dioxide particle and its improved dispersion stability |

In order to improve the dispersion stability of zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) particles dispersed in the poly(4-vinylphenol-co-methyl methacrylate) (PVP-co-PMMA) solution in 2-methoxyehtanol for its gate insulator application, we coated them with poly(methyl methacrylate ) (PMMA) via dispersion polymerization. In addition, the PMMA shell was cross-linked by a cross-linking agent to improve the mechanical properties of PMMA. Thickness of the coating layer depended on the concentration of MMA and ZrO2 particles added to the systems. The synthesized cross-linked PMMA coated ZrO2 particles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The chemical composition was also confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry. The mass ratio of PMMA to the ZrO2 was revealed by using thermogravimetric analysis. Finally the improved dispersion stability of the coated particles in PVP-co-PMMA/2-methoxyethanol solution was obtained by using a Turbiscan. |
