제목 Effect of the various kinds of acids on the surface modification of virgin UHMWPE powder
초록 Although UHMWPE is useful in biomedical field, it has a weak link with another biomaterials because of the surface of UHMWPE powder is inert. In the present study, UHMWPE powders were modified by sulfuric, acetic, and hydrochloric acid. After adding the surface-modified 3 wt% UHMWPE powders to self curing PMMA bone cement, mechanical properties were confirmed through tensile strength measurement whether the powder was surface-modified or not. It was confirmed that the mechanical strength was better than that of self curing PMMA bone cement. This result might be sufficiently etched and modified by means of acids for improving the surface adhesion of UHMWPE powder with another biomaterials. The thermal properties of the bone cement impregnated the surface-modifying 3 wt% UHMWPE powders decreased due to the UHMWPE powders. Also, FTIR-ATR was used for analyzing the chemical composition of the surface-modified UHMWPE powder.
