Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite (IPMC) is composed of ion exchange membrane and two metal electrodes. IPMC can be used in various biomedical applications such as micro actuator devices and artificial muscles, due to its light weight and large displacement in relatively low voltage. For a similar principle, IPMC can be utilized as bending sensor also. When mechanical pressure is applied, hydrated cations are migrated by the deformation of IPMC, then the temporary electric current signal is detected. In this reasearch, we confirmed the sensor properties of IPMC and suggest its capability as mechanical bending sensor. Also, we disscussed the effects of dimension and inner solvent of IPMC on its sensor ability. |
