Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite (IPMC) is made by ion exchange membrane and two metal electrodes. Due to its light weight and large displacement in relatively low voltage, IPMC can be applied in biomedical research such as actuator devices and artificial muscles. For a similar principle, IPMC can be performed as bending sensor by migration of hydrated cations, when the deformation of IPMC was occurred by applied mechanical pressure. During this process, temporary electric potential is formed and output current signal can be detected. In this research, we confirmed the membrane properties and sensor properties of IPMC, including the suggestion of its potential and capability as mechanical bending sensor. Also, we verified the resolution of IPMC sensor, by testing the minimum displacement required to detect sensor signal. |
