Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite (IPMC), consist of ionic polymer membrane, and metal electrodes, has small size, light weight, and excellent flexibility. IPMC shows large displacement when electric field is applied. Because of these benefit, IPMC has been performed for actuator, and widely used as biomimetic or medical usage. IPMC also can be used as bending sensor because mechanical deformation causes temporary difference of electrical potential. For applying IPMC as bending sensor, we introduced novel ion exchange membrane for alternative materials of commercial membrane. This membrane has shorter side chains with ionic group than the previous ion exchange membrane, so it is assumed that there are more ionic groups in this membrane. Here, membrane properties, such as ion exchange capacity and water uptake, are measured and compared each membranes. In our research, sensor behavior of IPMC was tested to confirm their capability as an novel polymer bending sensor. |
