Need of LCD simulation was increased for design, optimization, and defect analysis. I introduce electro-optical simulation technology of LCD. LCD simulator can analyze and expect electrical and optical characteristics of LCD with physics based models and numerical techniques. Dynamics of liquid crystal molecules are well modeled with continuum theory as Ericksen-Leslie equation. We can solve the equation in a space using numerical method such as finite-element method. Optical characteristics with polarization status in the LCD can be modeled by matrix methods. In this paper, I introduce physics based numerical models and numerical methods for LCD simulation. Finally, I introduce several operating modes of LCD using simulation results. |
