The mechanisms of the high-efficiency harmful gas adsorbent was manufactured using activated carbon fibers into which p-n junctioned metal oxides such as CuO and ZnO were studied. The p-n junctioned metal oxides were prepared by hydrothermal method. An solution of Zinc acetate dihydrate and sodium hydroxide were used to introduce the ZnO catalyst into the ACFs. Also, ethanol and copper nitrate solutions were used to introduce the CuO catalyst into the ZnO surface. As a result, we observed micropores and mesopores of the ACFs and even diffusion of the ZnO, CuO catalyst over the surfaces of the ACFs. The gas adsorptivity is thought to have been improved as a result of the synergetic effect of physical adsorption by the micropores and mesopores, the specific surface area developed by the catalytic effect of the transition metal while introducing catalyst, and the chemical adsorption reaction of harmful gas by the p-n junctioned metal oxides.
