Synthesis of Low Bandgap Diketopyrrolopyrrole-Based Copolymers for Photovoltaic Applications |

Novel low bandgap polymers (PDPPTT) of electron-withdrawing diketopyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole(DPP) and electron-donating thieno[3,4-b]thiophene (TT) with different alkyl chains were synthesized using various cross-coupling techniques. The conjugated backbone composed of TT and DPP comonomer units effectively reduced the energy bandgap of the final polymers. The length of the alkyl units of the TT comonomer was changed to both enhanced the solubility of the conjugated polymer and modulated the energy level of the polymers. Using these polymers, we prepared a bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cell devices of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ DPPTT:PCBM/LiF/Al and measured its photovoltaic performance by using various characterization techniques. |
