Reduction-Sensitive Hyaluronic Acid Nanoparticles for Intracellular Delivery of Doxorubicin |

Self-assembled hyaluronic acid nanoparticles have received increasing attention in tumor-targeted drug delivery owing to its excellent biocompatibility and ability to selectively recognize specific cancer cells through CD44 receptors. As the glutathione concentration in the intracellular compartments such as cytoplasm and cell nucleus is found to be higher than the extracellular milieu, triggered release of drugs inside the cells could be achieved by incorporating reducible disulfide bonds in the nanoparticles. In the present study, reduction-sensitive HA nanoparticles were prepared using an amphiphilic disulfide-containing HA dodecyl conjugate, which was synthesized by a facile thiol-exchange reaction. Further, the resulting HA nanoparticles were evaluated as carrier of hydrophobic anticancer drug, doxorubicin. |
