Silica shelled microspheres are widely used in industry fields magnetism, electronics, biomedical, catalyst, and optics owing to their unique properties. In general, solid core templates are needed to fabricate silica shell. Therefore, the core materials should be removed by solvent extraction or calcinations in order to make hollow silica spheres. Herein, we explored a novel method to prepare hollow silica microspheres using a liquid core template. Ethanol droplet stabilized by a cationic surfactant was formed in soybean oil. The silica shell was directly generated on ethanol droplet by the enhanced attraction between the surfactant and TEOS. Using this method, core-free silica shell was obtained without further treatment. |
