Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) which can be formed by mixing a quaternary ammonium salt with a hydrogen bonding donor have been proposed as versatile alternatives to ionic liquids since their physicochemical properties resemble those of ionic liquids. DESs could be used as extraction media to resolve deadlock associated with azeotropic behaviors. In this work, liquid-liquid equilibrium data of azeotropic alcohol mixture systems with hexane and DES were measured to understand phase equilibrium limits on the extraction process. LLE of ethanol-hexane-glyceline was measured at 25℃ and ethanol was extracted by glyceline. The results showed that glyceline was applicable to concentrate ethanol overcoming the azeotropic composition with hexane. |
