Ionic liquid based polymer electrolytes, known as ion gels, have attracted significant attention as a promising solid electrolytes for deformable electrical and electrochemical thin-film devices due to their outstanding physicochemical characteristics including high ionic conductivity, low vapor pressure, and good mechanical property including stretchability. For the successful long-term operation of these deformable devices, all the active layers of the devices can function without performance degradation from the external mechanical stress. In this work, we developed highly conductive, stretchable and self-healable ion gels that can withstand external mechanical deformation and prevent functional degradation from the mechanical breakdown such as scratches and cuts. These ion gels were successfully employed in electrical double layer capacitors and stretchable sensors and the resulting devices exhibited outstanding tolerance to the mechanical failure. |
