Phase change materials (PCMs) have attracted significant attention for the applications in thermal energy storage and managements. A latent heat of organic or inorganic materials in the phase change process is commonly used for the energy storage. It is isothermal process with small temperature variation and exhibits high energy storage density, which allows for PCMs to be utilized for various fields such as the solar energy managements, energy saving building, thermal managements for electronics, and textiles. Here, we present colloidal synthesis of highly monodisperse phase change core-shell nanobeads via emulsion polymerization. Organic paraffin core was over-coated by polymeric shell, which effectively prevents the leakage of PCMs during the phase change process, and also improves the heat storage capacity of PCMs. We confirmed the structures, composition and thermal properties of nanobeads fabricated with different reaction parameters. |
