Polyurethanes (PU) are very versatile materials with a wide range of physical and chemical properties. They are composed of hard and soft segments. The hard segments consist of diisocyanate and chain extender. The soft segments consist of glycol and constitute soft domains which impart polyurethanes elastic properties. Mechanical properties of PU are affected by micro phase separation of hard and soft segment and hydrogen bonding between hard segments. In this study, reactions between 3-aminoprpyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and PU prepolymer were carried out and sol-gel- reactions of silane groups were employed for the network formation of polyurethanes. Mechanical and thermal properties of polyurethanes modified with APTES were compared with conventional PU elastomers. |
