Application of Biodegradable Polymeric Microsphere as Embolic Material |
초록 |
Chemoembolization is one of promising therapeutic methods for hepatocellular carcinoma, which occludes the artery suppling nutrition to tumor tissue with micro-beads or viscous oils. This method has some advantages that it does not demand any surgical operations or radiations. Since embolization is usually treated several times during a predetermined period of time, the blocking materials should be cleared after a few weeks so that it does not makes any disturbance to the secondary injection. In this research, we used FDA-approved biodegradable polymer and formulated micro-sized beads. In addition, the radiopacity was given to microsphere during the particle formation for convenience and safety of treatment. The size of beads was around several hundred micrometers, and the beads contained enough x-ray visible substances to be visualized by a C-arm x-ray device. In conclusion, we confirmed the potential of this biodegradable polymeric bead for more effective cancer therapy. |
