Flexible electronic skins (e-skins), which mimics perceptive functions of human skin, can be of use in emerging applications, such as robotics, prosthesis, wearable healthcare monitoring devices. To apply e-skins into these various applications as a single device, high sensitivity, large dynamic range, and linear response to applied pressure are necessary, however e-skins with all of these sensing properties have not been reported yet. Here, we suggest novel e-skins based on interlocked microdome multilayer structures for highly sensitive and linear pressure sensors with ultra-large dynamic pressure range. Due to the stress concentration between interlocked microdome arrays and increased contact area in multilayer system, the ferroelectric and conductive multilayered e-skins could perceive static/dynamic pressure with high sensitivity. In addition, stress distribution between stacked layers enables linear and ultra-large range pressure sensing. |
