제목 Methanotrophs for production of biodegradable plastics from methane
초록 The development of methanotrophs as a novel biorefineryplatform for the production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), biodegradableplastics as a potential alternative to conventional plastics, from methane isconsidered as a promising solution. Although type II methanotrophs canaccumulate poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) and have a high carbon flux throughCoA-derivatives including acetyl-CoA which is the precursor of PHA biosynthesis,PHA copolymer production has not been fully recognized. Advances in molecular biotechnologyprovided more efficient engineering tools and approaches for developing highlyefficient methanotrophic platforms. Recent progress in metabolic engineering ofmethanotrophs as PHA producing platforms demonstrated their potential for thesustainable production of biodegradable plastics from methane.​​​
