제목 | Improvement of Tensile Strength of Carbon Nanotube Fibers by Chemical Routes |
초록 | The needs for stronger and lighter materials are ever-increasing. Carbon fiber is one of the most promising candidates with exceptionally high specific tensile strength and modulus. A new challenger against carbon fiber is CNT fiber. Though individual CNTs are so small that it is difficult to handle, they can be assembled into a one-dimensional macroscopic structure, called a CNT fiber. Despite their remarkable potential, the mechanical properties of CNT fibers are mainly restricted by the fact that CNTs rely on weak physical interactions, leading to inefficient load transfer. In this talk, several approaches to overcome this problem are introduced. These include chemical crosslinking using esterification [1], double [2+1] cycloadditions [2], and fabrication of CNT/C composite fiber by chemical vapor infiltration [3]. Future prospects and challenges are also suggested. References [1] Appl Surf Sci. 2017;392:342-9 [2] Korean J Chem Eng. 2015;33(1):299-304 [3] Nanoscale. 2016;8(45):18972-9 |
