Synthesis and Properties of Sulfonated Poly(Arylene Ethers) containing Crosslinking Moiety |

The novel fluorinated poly(arylene ether) copolymers containing sulfonic acid group and crosslinking moiety were prepared for polymer electrolyte membrane of fuel cells. The regulation of the crosslinking density can be controlled by the molar ratio of crosslinking agent. Crosslinked membranes were prepared by thermal curing, and the membranes formed crosslinked network structure by covalent bonds. Gel fraction was evaluated in order to measure the crosslinking density. The thermal properties of the membranes increased with increasing the molar ratio of crosslinking agent. The crosslinked network structure suppressed the water uptake and swelling of the crosslinked membrane. The proton conductivity (0.047 0.123 S/cm) and methanol permeability (8 × 10-8 101 × 10-8 cm2/s) of the membranes also decreased with increasing crosslinking moiety. |
