Bis(4-aminophenyl)-1-adamantyl phosphine oxide (DAAPO), containing phosphine oxide and adamantine moieties, was utilized to prepare polyimides with 6FDA, PMDA, BTDA and ODPA, via a conventional two-step synthesis; preparation of poly(amic-acid), followed by solution imidization. Their molecular weights were controlled to 20,000 g/mol by off-stoichiometry. All polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, GPC, DSC and TGA, and subjected to solubility, solution viscosity, water absorption, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), and dielectric and optical properties. Adhesion properties were also evaluated via T-peel test with silane/Cr-coated or bare Cu foils and failure surfaces were investigated by SEM to elucidate adhesion mechanism. |
