Fabrication of Three-dimensional Scaffolds Using Solid Freeform Fabrication System and Their Biologic Evaluation |

A fabrication of three-dimensional (3D) scaffold for tissue regeneration is very important in tissue engineering. However, there are several limitations because the conventional scaffold fabrication methods cannot precisely control 3D structure. In this study, we prepared tubular scaffolds by solid freeform fabrication (SFF) using MPEG-b-(PLLA-ran-PGA-ran-PCL) (MPEG-PLGC) block copolymers. SFF can provide the 3D scaffolds with adaptation in the pore size, porosity, strand pitch and diameter of scaffolds. The fabricated 3D scaffolds were consisted of interconnected porous structures. Also, we confirmed that the changes in a molecular weights and monomer ratios of MPEG-PLGC block copolymers could adjust the biodegradation period. Additionally, the 3D scaffolds provoked a less in vivo inflammatory response, indicating tissue biocompatibility. As a result, 3D scaffolds fabricated by SFF might be very useful materials for tissue engineering. |
