제목 Screening of gastric cancer-specific biomarkers by analyzing the volatile organic compounds in breath of patients and healthy subjects using SPME-GC/MS system
초록 Early detection of cancer is very important because of its lethality. Especially, gastric cancer (GC) is the third cause of death from cancer due to its ambiguous symptoms and time-consuming diagnosis method. Therefore, development of a rapid and non-invasive detection tool of cancer became an urgent problem. Recently, the volatile organic compounds (VOC) from patient show a huge potential as a biomarker of disease because the VOCs represent the body condition. Herein, we screened VOCs from breath of GC patients and healthy subjects for identification of biomarkers. The exhaled breath were collected in tedlar bags and analyzed using a solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatograph/mass spectrometry. As results, the amount of several short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were higher in exhaled breath of GC patients than that in exhaled breath of healthy subjects. This study suggests that the amount of specific SCFAs in breath of GC patients can be closely connected with the existence of tumor cells within a stomach.
