제목 Preparation of an adsorption-based sensor system for detecting VOCs
초록 Activated carbons were prepared from Mongolian anthracite as sensing materials for detecting volatile organic compounds. The carbon precursor, anthracite, was activated with potassium hydroxide. The activated carbons were characterized by nitrogen adsorption experiments in order to obtain specific surface area, pore volumes, average pore sizes and pore size distributions. Prior to preparing sensor elements, quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) surfaces were washed using piranha solution for 5 min and dried for 24 h. After Poly-isobutylene solution was coated on the QCM as a binder using a spin coating method, activated carbon particles were drop-coated on the QCM. The adsorption of benzene, toluene, and p-xylene was conducted on the activated carbon-coated QCM sensor elements at pressures from vacuum to 1 kPa in order to assess the adsorption characteristics of typical VOCs on the activated carbons prepared in this work.
