Activated carbon electrodes for EDLC were prepared from Mongolian anthracites by chemical activation with potassium hydroxide. The prepared activated carbons were characterized using elemental analysis and nitrogen adsorption-desorption experiments at 77K. Furthermore XPS was used for checking functional groups on activated carbon surface. The prepared activated carbons have relatively high BET surface area and large mesopore volume, comparing with other activated carbons reported in several literatures. The electrochemical performance of the activated carbon EDLC electrodes was assessed by cyclic voltammetry, ac impedance, and charge-discharge experiments in order to investigate the effects of physical properties of carbon and electrolytes on electrochemical performance. The electrolytes used were 6M KOH and 1M TEABF4/PC for aqueous and non-aqueous EDLC systems. |
