Nanoporous Ti30Si70MCM-41 was used as the main photocatalyst for the effective photoreduction of CO2 to CH4. A ruthenium dye, N719, as a photosensitizer, was also introduced to the Ti30Si70MCM-41 surfaces to improve the visible photo absorption. The catalytic performance of the N719-photosensitized-Ti30Si70MCM-41 was superior to those of the non-dye photosensitized Ti30Si70MCM-41 and N719-photosensitized-Ti30Si70O200 nano-sized catalysts. The photoreduction of CO2 to CH4 was improved remarkably over the N719-(5 h)-photosensitized-Ti30Si70MCM-41, producing 1,900 mol/gcat−1L−1 after an 8 h reaction. The results were attributed to the effective charge separation and inhibited recombination of photogenerated electron–hole pairs over N719-photosensitized Ti30Si70MCM-41 |
