EFFECTS OF CHEMICAL RESISTANCE ON THE PREPARATION METHODS OF POLYMER IMPREGNATED CONCRETE |

In this work, polymer impregnated concrete (PIC) was prepared by impregnating precast cement concrete with Methylmethacrylate (MMA) and MMA polymerized using two different methodsviz. by microwaves and hot water. The percentage weight gain on prolonged exposure to water and percentage degrees of retention of the compressive strengths of these samples after immersion in seawater and 2.5M HCl for various periods of time were calculated. Investigations revealed that the properties of the PIC samples were far superior when compared to those of conventional cement concrete. Also the chemical resistance properties of the PIC samples polymerized using microwaves had far better properties. |
