The incorporation of POSS cages into polymer materials may result in improvements in polymer properties, including increased usage temperature, oxidative resistance and surface hardening, there by lead to better mechanical properties as well as a reduction in flammability and heat evolution. In this study, we report the ternary blend system of polystyrene (PS), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and POSS nanohybrids prepared by the solution blending method. The formation of the nanohybrid is characterized by FE-SEM and FE-TEM. Furthermore, the distribution of POSS nanoparticles in the immiscible PS/PMMA blends is examined in terms of their wetting coefficients and the minimization of the interfacial energy. Thermal properties of the PS/PMMA/POSS nanohybrids are also determined by DSC and TGA. |
