Sulfur has been recognized as a promising cathode material for future Li-ion battery. However, the sulfur cathode suffers from polysulfide shuttle during cycling, limiting its practical applications. Hence, there has been current research to suppress the polysulfide shuttle for long term stability. The general strategy to overcome this problem is encapsulation of sulfur particle by carbon or conductive polymer. However, volume change during cycling produces mechanical stress and it can degrade coating layer due to the weak interaction between coating material and sulfur. Moreover, the general method requires large amount of coating material, which will reduce energy density. We have developed a novel anchoring and surface polymerization method to solve these issues. The preparation and properties of newly-developed system will be discussed in detail. |
