The effect of pressure on thermal diffusivity in polymer composites |

We studied the effect of pressure in two-phase system. Thermally conductive silicon carbide and carbon fiber filled polypropylene and polycarbonate composites were prepared by applying various pressures from 0MPa to 20MPa. The samples were prepared by hot press and thermal diffusivity was measured by laser-flash method. Consequently, the highest heat diffusivity was observed for the composites processed at highest pressure. The thermal diffusivity values of composites at 20MPa of silicon carbide filled polycarbonate composite were 0.23cm2/s. It implies that pressure makes thermally connecting pathway very easily. We assume that this effect has a relation with interface of filler and polymer. |
