Inspite of the usefulness of o-carboranlmethylamines for carborane chemistry, only some examples of water-soluble o-carboranylmethylamine derivatives have appeared in the literature. A new synthetic method for synthesizing 2-hydroxybenzylcarborane derivatives containing a water-soluble functional groups such as 2-methoxyethyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, and acetic acid group is described. In vitro studies showed that the desired 2-hydroxybenzylcarboranes accumulate to high levels in B-16 melanoma cells despite low cytotoxicity. |
