The extraordinary mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties of carbon nanotubes make them outstanding materials to blend with polymers to prepare potentially multifunctional nanocomposites. However, development of polymer nanocomposites with dispersed carbon nanotubes, with some notable exceptions, has been largely hindered by the lack of dispersion of the carbon nanotubes, perhaps due to the strong inter-tube interactions. One approach for improving the dispersions of carbon nanotubes is to functionalize the carbon nanotubes’ walls. During the past few years, much attention has been paid to the carbon nanotubes modified with cyclodextrin(CNT-CD) and adamantyl-containing polymer. In this study, CNT-CD was synthesized by the functionalization of the multi-wall nanotubes(MWNT) with modified β-CD. New adamantyl-containing polymer was also synthesized using a simple synthetic method. Their composites were characterized by means of IR spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, TGA, and DSC. |
