Activated corrosion products deposited on the reactor coolant system must be decontaminated to reduce the radiation exposure to workers. Chemical decontamination processes using organic acids have been widely applied to remove the products, however, they generate a considerable amount of ion exchange resin which is hard to be treated. To resolve this problem, KAERI has been developing a chemical decontamination process using chelate-free inorganic acid, HyBRID process. In this study, operation conditions of cyclic HyBRID process for a pressurized water reactor and recyclable HyBRID process for a pressurized heavy water reactor were derived based on the dissolution characteristics and mechanisms of the corrosion products. The performance tests of the HyBRID processes were effectively conducted by dissolution test of corrosion product surrogate. It was confirmed that the HyBRID processes can be applied to the nuclear facility site through pilot-scale equipment tests. |
