Synthesis of niacianamide and phenylethyl resorcinol functionalized titanium dioxide composites for whitening cosmetic applications |

Microfine Titanium dioxide is used extensively in sunscreen cosmetics as an inorganic UV filter for their abilities to absorb broad spectrum ultraviolet irradiation and relative whiteness in cosmetic formulations. In this work, we present a new strategy towards the preparation of organic/inorganic hybrid Niacianamide and Phenylethyl Resorcinol/TiO2 composites that having UV-screening properties and whitening effect with resistivity towards microbial growth. TiO2 particles synthesized by surfactant assisted sol-gel method were treated with sodium hydroxide or monochloroacetic acid in order to introduce chemical binders (-OH, -COOH) for surface interaction between TiO2 and whitening materials. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) characterizations revealed the binding of whitening materials on the surface of TiO2. |
