m-Aramid, a wholly aromatic polyamide, is well known for its outstanding performances in chemical stability, flame resistance, and mechanical modulus. Unlike p-Aramid, m-Aramid can be easily manufactured into technical fibers and films via solution processes using organic solvents. Graphene oxide (GO), a graphene sheet functionalized with hydroxyl or carbonyl groups, shows a better dispersion in organic solvents, compared to neat graphene sheets. Graphene sheet is very attractive as reinforcing nanofiller because of its unique 2-dimential structural feature and excellent physical properties. In this study, we have prepared a series of m-Aramid/GO nanocomposite films by a solution casting technique and investigated their structures, thermal stability, mechanical and electrical properties as a function of GO contents. |
