Mesoporous Carbon-TiO2 Inverse Opals for Efficient Photocatalysis and Photoelectrochemical Application |

TiO2 has been recognized as representative semiconductor material with excellent photocatalytic activity. In this work, enhanced photocatalytic efficiency under UV and visible light irradiation were achieved by structuring mesoporous carbon-TiO2 inverse opal nanostructures. The mesoporous TiO2 inverse opals were fabricated by using polystyrene beads and amphiphilic triblock copolymer as templates along with infiltration method of sol-gel precursors. The photodegradation of p-nitrophenol was selected as a model reaction because the compound is considered one of the most refractory substances present in industrial wastewaters with high stability and solubility in water. Photoelectrochemical water splitting was also demonstrated using carbon-TiO2 inverse opals under the visible light irradiation. Thus, the enhanced visible light active photocatalysis is systematically investigated based on a new class of hierarchical nanostructures by optimizing thecomposition and morphology. |
