제목 Investigation of Propylene Transport in Ionic Liquid andApplication of Facilitated Olefin Transport Membrane
초록 This is a first trial of room temperature ionic liquids as an olefin carrier for facilitated olefin transport, where reversible interactions between ILs and olefin such as propylene occur to form complexes of free cations of ILs with propylene. The formation of free cations, as confirmed from slight shift of N-O stretching band upon propylene exposure by FT-IR spectra and also from quantum mechanical ab initio calculations, may be induced from interactions between the cations and olefin molecules. The transient sorption behavior of propylene in ionic liquid did not coincide with Fickian transport due to the reversible interactions, whereas non-interacting propane did. Moreover, the absorbed propylene was totally desorbed under vacuum condition, indicating that the interaction is reversible. It was thus concluded that imidazolium cations of ionic liquids can act as an olefin carrier for facilitated transport based on their selective, reversible interactions.
