N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) shows a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) at 32°C in aqueous solution. The thermoresponsive behavior of NIPAM was extensively investigated and modeled by different researchers. In this study, a series of AB crosslinked polymers have been synthesized from polyurethane (PU) (polymer A) and NIPAM (polymer B). PU was prepared from MDI and PEG1000, and was subsequently dispersed in water. The effect of PU/NIPAM composition, crosslinking agent and KPS contents have been studied in terms of TEM morphology, mechanical properties (UTM), dynamic thermal mechanical properties (DMTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and swelling ratio at various temperature. A inverted core(PU)-shell(NIPAM) morphology with very fine dispersion was obtained.
