In a one-step synthesis, we created gold nanoparticles inside hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (H-MSNP) for applications in drug delivery and cancer therapy. To achieve targeting of the H-MSNPs, starch was grafted on the surface and conjugated with cyclic(RGDyK). The dispersed synthesis of gold particles inside the silica spheres was confirmed by EDS analysis, while the coating was confirmed through FT-IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. We also demonstrated the targeting of the H-MSNP@Au/Starch/c(RGDyK) nanoparticles towards integrin overexpressing tumors. Furthermore, the apoptosis of tumors using near-infrared (NIR) irradiation and anti-cancer drugs was observed. We expect the starch act as a degradable α-amylase, preventing undesired leaking of the anti-cancer drugs from the nanoparticles. Therefore, the nanoparticles could be useful as a potential synergistic drug in tumor therapy, combining the function of a drug carrier for chemo-photothermal therapy applications. |
