Au@Polymer Core-Shell Nanoparticles for Simultaneously Enhancing Efficiency and Ambient Stability of Organic Optoelectronic Devices |

Monodispersed gold-polystyrene core-shell nanoparticles (Au@PS NPs) were successfully synthesized for highly-efficient and air-stable organic photovoltaics (OPVs) and organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). The monodispersed Au@PS NPs were incorporated into a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxy-thiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) film in the devices. The use of Au@PS NPs induced a simultaneous enhancement in the device efficiency and the ambient stability of the devices. The enhancement of the device performance was attributed to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of the Au core of the Au@PS NPs and simultaneously, the Au@PS NPs induced a significant improvement in the device stability by reducing the acidic and hygroscopic properties of the PEDOT:PSS layer. |
