Facile synthesis of high magnetization FeCo nanoparticles through a one pot polyol process using all metal chloride precursors |

High magnetization FeCo nanoparticles with different Fe/Co ratios have been prepared from the metal chlorides through an environment friendly and surfactant free modified polyol process. Ethylene glycol was used as a solvent, reducing agent in this process. Co chloride instead of Co acetate has been used to synthesize small size (<100 nm) by enhancing the reduction process in terms of hydroxide ion concentration, reaction temperature optimization. We found that the chloride precursors yielded the well-controlled compositional nanoparticles. An ultrasound irradiation in polyol process affects the uniform spherical FeCo nanoparticles. All the synthesized samples were annealed at 6000c for 2hrs by passing hydrogen gas. X-ray diffraction(XRD) data on the samples confirm that in all the compositions got a single phase body-centered–cubic structured FeCo alloy. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) data suggested that the annealed ultrasonicated FeCo nanoparticles are of 18-25 nm in size and spherical shape. The vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) measurements reveals that the Fe60Co40had highest magnetization of 236emu/g among the all samples. |
