Although the market for lithium ion batteries is still expanding, it is largely limited to that of portable devices. In order to be more suitable for very profitable market such as that of electric vehicles, the active material’s specific capacity and rate capability must be further improved. The conventional materials are nearly optimized to its full capacity and it is imperative to develop new active materials to be applied in vehicles. Among them, lithium sulfur battery has high potential to be largely successful in the electric market due to its high specific capacity. In addition, large amounts of sulfur produced from refineries need to be utilized, making it a cheap raw material. Numerous research papers have been published regarding sulfur battery, where the sulfur is encapsulated in porous carbon material, but the longevity of the cell is still under question. In this study, the attempt is made to prepare a sulfur battery that maintains an acceptable cell performance for prolonged time. |
