Single atom catalysts(SACs) receive attention with their high catalytic activity, stability, and 100% atom utilization. However, they have a challenge of exposing active sites as many as possible until the formation of metal clusters or nanoparticles. Heteroatom doping such as nitrogen into carbon substrate increase the number of active site by enhancing metal-support interaction, but that number is still insufficient. Herein, we transformed the 2D graphene nanosheet into the 3D crumpled graphene and demonstrated that crumpled graphene has a high porosity and a large surface area. The diverse distribution of pore size makes way for adsorbate ions and the enlarged surface area provides more active sites attributing enhancement of catalytic performance. Platinum-SACs supported by nitrogen-doped crumpled graphene(NCG/Pt) shows higher catalytic performance than supported by 2D graphene. These results provide an understanding of morphological effects separated from intrinsic properties. |
