Polymers of Intrinsic Microporosity Containing Tröger's Base for Gas Separation Membranes |

Polymers of intrinsic microporosity(PIMs) have been explored for gas separation membrane and gas adsorbent due to their high porosity and surface area. However, their low selectivity and affinity with specific gases have restricted their performance in the applications. Introducing more rigid structures to PIMs reduces chain mobility and enhances gas selectivity. Furthermore, attaching specific functional groups into PIMs infuse high gas permeability and affinity with specific gases(e.g. CO2). Recently, Mckeown et al. reported PIM-EA-TB, composed of V-shaped Tröger's base and rigid structures called ethanoanthracene, to reduce conformation freedom of the polymer chains, and enhanced diffusivity selectivity in gas membranes. However, introducing functional groups into PIM-EA-TB is limited due to their lack of reactive sites. Here, we designed and synthesized PIMs containing Tröger's base unit with various functional groups to enhance both diffusivity and solubility selectivity. |
