Facile control of magnetic intensity for silica coated magnetic microsphere |

Magnetic microsphere has been used as a quick, easy and gentle separation tool of bio compounds from solution. It is appropriate for immunoassay, DNA analysis and cell analysis which require non-destructive analysis of biological compounds. In this study, we prepared silica coated magnetic microsphere whose magnetic intensity was easily controllable. The magnetic microsphere is composed of magnetic nanoparticles embedded in sulfonated polystyrene bead and a silica shell layer which provides water compatibility. The magnetic intensity was controlled by the degree of sulfonation in polystyrene bead. As a model test, we used streptavidin-bound magnetic microsphere to demonstrate selective biological separation. |
