Synthesis and characterization of Dual Stimuli Sensitive PEG-g-Poly(NIPAAm) |

We prepared a double stimuli responsive PEG-g-NIPAAm copolymer that responded to change in temperature and pH. We have designed and synthesized the PEG-g-NIPAAm copolymer that can be generated from the pH-dependent progressive hydrolysis of a benzoic-imine linker in the micelle-forming amphiphilic polymer. NIPAAm was copolymerized with a known quantity of DEA to form a poly(NIPAAmDEA) copolymer and was subsequently grafted with PEG-g- benzoic acid. The LCST of the PEG-g-NIPAAm was depended on the pH and temperature. The LCST of the polymer was decreased by increasing pH. The pH-dependent LCST and particle size was confirmed by cloud-point and DLS method. The resulting series of the PEG-g-NIPAAm were also investigated for their dynamic water contact angles. Responsiveness to combination of stimulus provides the possibility of achieving location specific delivery. |
