Atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP) of a liquid crystalline monomer having a diacetylene group and self assembly study of its corresponding block copolymer |
초록 |
We synthesized a liquid crystalline(LC) compound having two different polymerizable groups, i.e. acryl and diacetylene groups. ATRP technique was used to polymerize the acryl groups to get a homopolymer with narrow molecular weight distribution. The homopolymer showed LC properties at r.t. Diblock copolymers were also obtained by performing block copolymerization with monomers such as MMA, styrene and 4-vinylpyridine. A thin film was made by spin coating from a solution of diblock copolymer in toluene onto a mica substrate. Microphase separation was induced by annealing the film to the temperature above its Tg. This phase separated thin film exhibited LC properties in the regions where the block of mesogenic units self assembled. Diacetylene groups in the self assembled film were then polymerized with 254 nm UV to produce conjugated polydiacetylene chains. Fluorescence microscopy confirmed that only the areas containing polydiacetylene chains in the patterned film were fluorescent. |
