제목 Improvement of mechanical properties of polyimide film by simple microwave irradiation
초록 Polyimide films have been prepared by conventional thermal imidization of poly(amic acid)s (PAAs). The mechanical properties of polyimide films can be significantly enhanced by microwave (MW) irradiation of PAAs and thermal imidization. MW-treated pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and 4,4′-oxydianiline (ODA)-based polyimide (PO) films showed 21% higher tensile strength and 44% higher elongation at break than the control PO film, which was prepared without MW irradiation. Tensile strength improvement by MW irradiation was also demonstrated for the other polyimides prepared from various dianhydrides and ODA. The improved tensile strength can be attributed to the increase in molecular weight of the polyimides. This hypothesis was supported by a model study showing that the reaction of phthalic acid with aniline occurs by MW irradiation. Our process requires relatively low MW power and can be performed in a very short amount of time and no need of incorporation of inorganic materials.
